Frohnleiten, Austria

By

After arriving yesterday afternoon with a 3 hour train ride from Vienna, I’m now in the idyllic Austria town on Frohnleiten. This town is about 30 minutes outside of Graz and is famous for its old village and steeple near the mur river. I’m visiting my friend Michelle whose family we have connected with for 60.plus years by this family owning a cabin behind my cabin in Pinecrest. She lives in Frohnleiten full time.

The morning was busy with a visit to the town and a coffee with a 85 year old resident Franz. During mid day I took a walk around town and grabbed some pictures.

In the afternoon we took an Austrian holiday cookies cooking class. In the evening we attended the local Krampus event where folks dress up in scary costumes as part of very old tradition.

A close encounter with a krampus costume person whose costume is designed to scare you. He told us he paid nearly $3000 for his costume. Folks join krampus clubs and clubs attend various events in different cities.
