Dubrovnik Croatia

Today I ferried from korčula to the major tourist destination of Dubrovnik. This old castle wall city is a massive old city that is several square blocks filled with restaurants and shops and many apartments. In every nook and cranny is another tiny restaurant with seating in tiny alleyways with room for 1 table width in the alley. Gelato shops every 47 feet. Lots of places to reach the water and swim when it’s warm. Must be a real zoo in the summer season. Very busy still. Today I arrived and walked around the old town and staying in an old castle building just outside the walled castle compound.

The castle old city of Dubrovnik
Walking around the castle where are little hidden exits to the cliffs outside of the fortress
Miles of bigger streets and really tiny streets crawling with tourists and cats in the old city.
My apartment is close to this other castle that overlooks the main castle.

Today was a full day mostly around old town Dubrovnik. A visit to maritime museum and walking the 2 km fortress wall and a few other museums since I bought the pass!

Afterwards took a break in the sun on a swimming beach just outside of the old city hustle and chaos.

Hiking the numerous flights of stairs takes one way above the city or on the walls of the fort way above the ocean. It’s a reminder that for a 1-2 thousand years European cities were always under siege and you spent much of the community monies on trying to keep others out. This massive fort and city inside is just a great example of that.

Dubrovnik is know for its special 1600’s sailing ships that they built here and then sailed in many places around Europe and many parts of the world.
