Póvoa de Varzim Portugal

By

Another full day of hiking northbound on the Portugal coastal route to Póvoa de Varzim.

The route today started to use miles of the famous Portugal coast wooden boardwalks. These elevated wood walk ways go for miles and miles often right next to a paved road. The scenery was a bit hilly and the wind picked up and the Atlantic Ocean waves were crashing close by. Today I met this mom and son group hiking from Germany and we hiked together for a few hours and a coffee and lunch spot together. We heard that this one camino gets a half a million hikers each summer which means like 5,000 hikers per day. There are maybe 50-100 hikers now a day so a completely empty Camino now.

Hiking early morning along the coast
Rocky coasts
Miles of board walks
Other Camino hikers
More boardwalks high above the dunes that maybe flood
This full scale model of a 14th century Portuguese sailing vessel was there giving tours.
Larger Atlantic surf hitting the coast line.
